Embroidered Charms
This cute kit is a perfect mini embroidery project - small enough to take out and about, and something that can be completed in one sitting! The kit comes with 3 pendants, 5 colors of thread and 9 different designs to pick from. There are enough supplies to make multiple versions that you can swap out as your heart desires. There's so many possibilities with the charm once you've completed it - a keyring, a bag charm, or even a necklace. Just grab your kit, a pencil and scissors and let’s get started!
Step-by-Step Instructions
There are only 3 stitches you need to know to make any of the 9 provided patterns:
1. Straight Stitch (Running Stitch): A simple embroidery stitch made by creating a straight stitch. It can be any length but must be straight.
2. Satin Stitch: Bring the needle up from the corner of any one of the edges of your shape. Take your needle down through the exactly opposite point on the facing edge. Bring the needle up through a point very close to the first point of emergence of the needle. Pull up the thread completely ensuring that the floss sits flat on the fabric. Repeat the process until the shape is completely filled. Take care to place the consecutive stitches close to each other and within the drawn guidelines to prevent unwanted gaps in the middle.
3. Buttonhole Wheel Stitch: Using a pencil, mark a circle and make a dot in the middle on your fabric. Bring your thread from the back of your fabric on the outer line. Insert the needle in the middle of the circle and bring the needle’s point out on the outer line. Loop the thread under the needle’s point. Pull the needle through the fabric to form the first spoke of the wheel. Repeat this process around the disk.
Making the Plant Charm:
1. Start by cutting out an approximately 6x6 inch square of canvas. Use the pencil to trace the outside of the hexagon pendant.
2. Use the template to draw the image of the plant so that it fits within the hexagon.
3. Using a straight stitch, make the stem of the plant with the green thread.
4. Using a lazy daisy stitch, make the leaves for the plant.
5. Once your plant is embroidered, place the back of the pendant underneath the canvas, centering the design on the pendant. Place the pendant frame on top of the canvas and press it down so that the canvas is clamped between the pendant frame and the backing.
7. Use scissors to cut the extra canvas off from around the back of the pendant.
8. Add the keychain to the pendant by placing it through the hoop at the top of the pendant.
Making the Flower Charm:
1. Start by cutting out an approximately 6x6 inch square of canvas. Use the pencil to trace the outside of the hexagon pendant.
2. Use the template to draw the image of the flowers so that it fits within the hexagon.
3. Using a straight stitch, make the stem of the small flowers with the green thread.
4. Using a lazy daisy stitch, make the leaves for the flowers and the small stemmed plants.
5. Use a buttonhole wheel stitch to make the flowers with the orange, pink and white thread.
6. Once your image is embroidered, place the back of the pendant underneath the canvas, centering the design on the pendant.
